Crashes investigated by state police at Fern Ridge

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Monroe County roadways.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:50 a.m. on Thursday along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Lisa M. Kleppinger, 36, of Lehighton, was driving a 2019 Kia Soul southbound when she swerved to avoid a deer on the roadway. The Kia went onto the right berm where the front passenger side struck a tree. The Kia then returned to the road and came to rest facing south.

Troopers said Kleppinger sustained a suspected minor injury, but did not require medical attention. She was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 11:54 a.m. on Monday along Neola Road in Jackson Township. Troopers said a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Jonathan M. Hardenstine, 30, of Stroudsburg, hit a 2009 Subaru Legacy driven by Thomasina Elam-Hooks, 59, of Stroudsburg. Elam-Hooks and her passenger, Pauline Russo, 87, of Saylorsburg, sustained suspected minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

Hardenstine was cited for stop signs and yield signs.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 1:04 p.m. Feb. 2 along Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township. Luis A. Carrasquillo, 49, of Saylorsburg, was operating a 2005 Subaru Forester when it left the road and struck a guide rail. Carrasquillo was injured and taken by West End ambulance to St. Luke’s, Bartonsville. The Subaru had to be towed.

He was cited for the crash.

• Troopers investigated a one-vehicle crash at 11:28 p.m. Jan. 27 along Neola Road in Jackson Township. Troopers said Islas-Rivera Fernando, 35, of Stroudsburg, failed to stop for a stop sign while northbound and went across Neola Church Road and onto property in the 5800 block of Neola Road, where his 2007 Cadillac CTS struck a boulder. The vehicle continued over the boulder and became disabled.

Fernando was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. He was cited for the stop sign violation. He was not injured.
